You may be wondering what all the fuss is about ‘being physically active’ … and more importantly, what is in it for you and your family?
1TeamActive wants to provide you with some useful information to explain the huge benefit that even a small amount of physical activity can do for you and your family. Ultimately it might also help you decide to change your lifestyle and become fitter and healthier.
There’s loads of information on the Government, NHS and Sport England websites which can help you. If you want to go ‘big’ on your research, the UK Chief Medical Officers’ Physical Activity guidelines are a good place to start but if that’s a bit overwhelming why not let us give you some basics to start with. The evidence is compelling. Being more active can protect you from physical and mental health conditions such as heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes and depression. Being fitter makes you feel healthier, happier and more productive in and out of work. For children and young people it can be a huge boost in life and confidence with improved learning and attainment, better mental health, cardiovascular fitness and a healthier body shape.
If you are active and/or involved in sport, your children will want to follow your lead onto the best path for life. What better opportunity can you give your family? Happy hormones are so good for us and being involved as a family in fun sports and activities will no doubt get you laughing whilst also creating lasting memories. When we choose to become healthier it also benefits our wider society and community in many ways. For instance, think big and help save the planet by cycling or walking to work or school and reducing air pollution!
