From outstanding football on the pitch to meaningful connection off it, the PSUK Women’s Football Tournament 2025 delivered a truly memorable experience at the University of Surrey Sports Park on 11–12 June.
Organised by Police Sport UK with the support of TeamPolice, this flagship event continues to grow in stature each year and in 2025, it once again highlighted why police sport plays a critical role in supporting mental health, resilience, and inclusion across the policing family.
With thanks to sponsors Nuix and Check Point Software Technologies, the tournament brought together 17 teams, dozens of staff and volunteers, and supporters. All united around a shared belief in the power of sport to build stronger policing community and improve wellbeing.
⚽ Day 1: Group Stage Action Sets the Standard
Wednesday began with back-to-back group fixtures across multiple pitches, with teams representing 15 forces from across the UK. There was no shortage of standout moments: quick-footed wing play, long-range strikes, and resolute defending under pressure. But more than that, there was a clear sense of shared purpose.
Every team gave their all, and the standard of professionalism and sportsmanship on display was outstanding.
At the close of the day, the top four teams from each group progressed to the quarter-finals:
🔹 Group A Final Standings
-
Northern Ireland – 18 pts
-
South Yorkshire – 17 pts
-
Devon & Cornwall – 16 pts
-
Hampshire – 15 pts
🔹 Group B Final Standings
-
Scotland – 22 pts
-
Met – 17 pts
-
Northumbria & Durham – 17 pts
-
West Midlands (Team 1) – 15 pts
For many of the players, some of whom were playing together for the first time, the day marked more than a tournament; it was an opportunity to represent their force with pride and feel part of something bigger.
🍽️ The TeamPolice Dinner & Drinks Reception
As the sun set on Day 1, teams and guests gathered at Hillside for a special TeamPolice Dinner & Reception, generously supported by SCC. This wasn’t just a social event, it was a celebration of how far the section and wider police sport has come, and where it’s going next.
Senior officers, event sponsors and team representatives shared reflections and stories over dinner, reinforcing the values behind the tournament: leadership, wellbeing, and the power of connection.
For many attendees, especially those new to TeamPolice or PSUK events, the dinner was a powerful reminder that sport is about far more than winning and that sport is a powerful tool in our community for workforce health and wellbeing.
