Swimming & Water Polo

Info on Polo:

Introduction to Water Polo

Water polo within Police Sport has a long and successful history with players from recreational through to international standard taking part. As part of the Aquatic Section (along with swimming and open water swimming) the water polo section is managed by an elected committee and receives funding from TeamPolice to compete. Together the swimming section players meet at the annual Swimming and Water Polo Championship held in April at a suitable location around the UK or NI, where Forces have volunteered to host the event. Following on from this championship, a representative team is selected to compete in up to 3 designated events throughout the year.

Historically teams were made up on a regional basis (such as North West, Midlands South West etc) to allow players from smaller forces to compete in a team environment. This continues to be the case and teams play each other in a round robin format. In recent years a local non-police team has been invited to compete in order to promote community involvement. At present there is not a separate competition female event however ladies do compete in the current mixed format.

The next Swimming and Water Polo Championships are being hosted by Leicestershire in 2025. Anyone interested in playing (or swimming) should initially contacted their force sports and social club and make contact with any local aquatic section representative who will have details of the event. If the force has no other players/swimmers attending then please contact someone from the Police Sport Aquatic Section committee who will gladly provide you with further details.
