Team Police held its first Golf Day three years after planning the event. Congratulations to all who took part. The event was held at the prestigious Forest of Arden Golf Club near Coventry on the Aylesbury Course. 24 police officers and staff took part against 24 sponsors. The event incorporated individual scores and a team match.
  • Shirley Fleming, Police Scotland, Individual Winner

Pride of place went to Shirley Fleming of Police Scotland, just three days before her retirement from the police, with an excellent score of 46 points. Shirley said afterwards “What a great advert for team police and Golf, a great mix of male players, ladies and disabled golfers. Well done to Team Police for organising such a great event.”

  • In second place with 41 points was Mark Necker, IBM
  • 3rd 39 points Ben Smith Notts Police
  • 4th 36 Points Marc Lees Magnet Forensics
  • Nearest the Pin – Ian Russell SCC
  • In the team event the Police were always on  top winning by 7 points to 4 against the sponsors.

Lee Freeman, Chief Constable Humberside Police and Chair of PSUK Men’s Golf Section said “This ia great event to advertise the best of police sport” and thanked Ian E Campbell executive officer of Police Sport UK for organising and Bernard Edwards of Hublsoft for being the main sponsors. He also thanked Tibco and Sprinklir for sponsoring the two ‘nearest the pin’ awards.

The day concluded with dinner and prize presentations at the Golf Club.

Special place went to Kris Aves, retired metropolitan police officer who was blown up in the London Bridge terrorist attack. Kris is now permanently disabled but thanks to generous sponsorship has a disabled Golf buggy that let’s him play and compete in his beloved sport.

Julie Finegan, Ladies Team Manager said “On behalf of the ladies who played, and the ladies committee we want to say a really big thank you for including us in this the first of hopefully many more events to come. From registration right throughout the day, everything ran smoothly and was really well organised. All our ladies enjoyed the golf and the meal in the evening and I think can honestly say we felt included and appreciated throughout the day. So again thank you for the invite. We were a little unsure of what to expect but having experienced it at first hand I can feed back to all the Ladies what a great day we had.”

Many sponsors taking part are already looking forward to the next event.

Hopefully we can repeat the process in 2023.
